Yesterday was the premiere of creativeLive’s broadcast of Babies & Bellies with Sandy Puc. It was my first time attending one of their workshops so I was really excited to see how it worked. Unfortunately my enthusiasm was curbed by a nasty flu bug and I had to curl up in bed with the laptop to watch. Not fun, but the workshop itself was fantastic.
If you’re a photography enthusiast or an aspiring pro who wants to accelerate your education, then creativeLive is definitely something you should look into. They host world-class online training with prominent instructors from every genre in the field. Most workshops are 2-3 days and all are FREE during the initial live broadcast. There’s also an evening rewatch you can catch for free if you view it during the day.
All courses are offered at a discount while airing (usually $99), then for a slightly higher rate thereafter (usually $149). This is a tremendous savings when you factor in the cost of airfare, hotel, etc that you’d normally spend on a location workshop. For those who can’t afford to trot the globe attending classes that cost upwards of $1000 (just for admission), it’s a killer deal.
To get a glimpse of the teaching format, have a look at creativeLive’s Youtube channel. There’s tons of pre-show banter and sample videos available. I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality of content, and the course line-up in the queue looks too good to miss.
Update – July 2013: I’ve been a loyal online participant of at least two dozen workshops since I first wrote this post, and CL just keep getting better. In fact, I’ve yet to see another online classroom which provides as much depth, expertise and interaction as creativeLive. They’ve even expanded their course offerings to include offshoot topics such as business, marketing, social media, healthy living and work/life balance. I could recommend them all day long.

Stopped off in Spearfish Canyon on a recent trip home from Deadwood, SD to meander along Spearfish Creek for a while.
